ДизайнThe settling time for the voltage regulators is about 40 ms. However, they can only bridge mains supply interruptions of up to a half-wave. The stabilizing effect is based on a tuned anti-resonant circuit with a saturated iron-core reactor (see "Circuit diagrams“). This saturated iron-core reactor is responsible for the distorted output voltage (harmonic distortion of 3 % to 4 %). Due to the anti-resonant circuit, magnetic voltage regulators are frequency-dependent.
Voltage regulators are designed and harmonized for ohmic loads. If the consumer has a power factor outside the specification, the output voltage is decreased for an inductive load and increased for a capacitive load. Inductive loads can be compensated with corresponding compensation capacitors. It is also possible to construct voltage regulators which are adapted to a different power factor.
The outputs of magnetic voltage regulators are short-circuit-proof i.e. if the output is short-circuited the current increases between 1.3 and 1.5 times the basic value. The input current changes only slightly. Due to this, a voltage regulator cannot trigger a fuse. The consumer can be protected by a motor protection contactor on the output which is set to the rated current. Due to the high induction in the iron core, the magnetic voltage regulators have inrush currents which are between 10 and 30 times higher than the rated current. For this reason, a time-lag mains fuse must be fitted to the input.
The characteristics of magnetic voltage regulators can be summarized as follows:
- Smoothing of line voltage fluctuations
- Regulation of the output voltage for fluctuating loads
- Electrical isolation of the output voltage from the input voltage, transformation of the input voltage into the required output voltage.
- Limitation of the output current to approx. 1.3 to 1.6 times In in the case of an overload or short-circuit (see current/voltage characteristic curve), short-circuit-proof.
- Filtering of radio disturbances (attenuation of 35 dB up to 100 kHz) and suppression of voltage peaks. Filtering of distorted input voltages, output distortion factor of 3 % to 4 % at the rated load
- Maintenance-free
- No moving parts
- Bridges line voltage interruptions of up to a half-wave
- Due to the anti-resonant circuit, magnetic voltage regulators are frequency-dependent.
Please note that the operating temperature and the noise generated for a magnetic voltage regulator is higher than for an isolating transformer.
Ambient conditions
The 4FK magnetic voltage regulators are climate-proof for mounting in rooms with an internal climate to DIN 50010.
