Automation of parts transport in press production lines
with the WF 723C positioning module in the SIMATIC S7-400 system.
Each press operates with a loading and an unloading feeder, which are usually freely programmable in 2 axes. The unloading feeder transfers the part to an intermediate storage device, from where it is picked up by the loading feeder of the downstream press. The intermediate storage devices may be positionable in several axes as required, in order to re-orientate the part for subsequent operations. This may even involve turning. The particular requirements of positioning technology are:
- Large-surface, low-rigidity parts, which are only held in place by suction devices, must be transported
- Distances in the meter-range must be covered with speeds between 240 m/min and 300 m/min
- The operation must be coordinated in at least 2 axes according to program
- Synchronized axis operation is also required for intermediate storage devices (turning station)
- The positioning motions of the individual units must be coordinated with the press and with the intermediate storage device and the downstream feeder, in order to avoid collisions.
Effective co-ordination of the individual transport units amongst each other and with the press and the positioning system significantly influences the output of such a highly mechanized press production line.
Similar solutions are employed for the automation of orienting stations with up to 5 axes in suction transfer presses.
