The SIMATIC S5-95 F/P press safety control system is a convenient solution designed to meet the safety regulations and accident prevention directives stipulated for presses. It replaces the conventional contactor with positive-action contacts and allows all the benefits of a modern user-programmable PLC to be put to use in a press safety system.

Safety through hardware

An on-board I/O eliminates unwanted costs. Safety-oriented inputs and outputs are already integrated. The standard configuration includes:

• 20 safety-oriented digital inputs including 4 hardware interrupt inputs
• 8 safety-oriented digital outputs
• 8 non-safety-oriented digital outputs
• 2 safety-oriented hardware counters
• 2 ports for extended I/O.

If the on-board I/O is not sufficient, it can be expanded with safety-oriented I/O modules.

Safety through software

All functions are correctly implemented and stored as software on the controller. The press-specific functions, such as two-handed engaging, mode selection, scanning of cams and limit switches, etc., exist as complete software modules and are easy to use. These blocks have been certified by the relevant German trade association. Used in conjunction with approved software packages, these blocks assure press safety.

During system acceptance, it is only necessary to check whether the user program and the external wiring meet the safety requirements.

COM 95F supports you during parameter assignment, start-up and troubleshooting:

Compact version for mechanical presses

In the compact version, the arrangement of I/Os and their correct connection with reference to short-circuit monitoring is defined by wiring specifications. The following optimized software functions and/or operating modes are available:

• Continuous stroke, automatic

The addresses are initialized, but can be reassigned easily by the user.

Modular version for mechanical and hydraulic presses

The modular version does not have the same restrictions with reference to wiring specifications and signal assignment as the compact version.

The modular version is available as a:

• Standard version with the same functions and modes as the compact version, as well as functions for the control and monitoring of hydraulic valves.
• Complete version with add-on functions such as multi-person operation and monitoring or testing of a light curtain, e.g. type FGS from Messrs. Sick in protected or cycle mode.

The SIMATIC S5-95 F/P consists of two identical units which are snapped onto a standard mounting rail. The processor, power supply and I/Os are housed in rugged plastic casings.

Both units exchange data quickly and reliably over a fiber-optic link, and both units run the same user program synchronously. They compare the input and output signals cyclically, as well as other data such as bit memories and counters. A fault response is initiated if the results are different. Comprehensive self-test routines are performed by the SIMATIC S5-95 F/P on start-up and during cyclical operation. This enables the PLC to detect even errors that occur simultaneously on both units.

You can program non-safety-related add-on functions in STEP 5 with your preferred type of representation, such as STL (statement list), LAD (ladder diagram) or FBD (function block diagram). The safety software was developed with the same STEP 5 instruction set.

• Online programming
  Connect a programming device directly to one of the units. Load the user program onto one of the units in RAM mode; the transfer to the other unit takes place automatically. No memory module may be plugged into either of the units.
• Offline programming
  Program your application on an EPROM memory module without a connection to the SIMATIC S5-95 F/P. Then plug the memory modules into both units.

For safety reasons, the control program must then always be stored on the EPROM memory modules in plant mode.
