Press2000 is a control concept for the automation of mechanical presses. The control concept is based on SIMATIC S7 and on press-specific technology software. Depending on requirements with regard to performance and functionality, the technology software is available in two versions: Press2000S (a STEP7 solution) or Press2000M7 on the SIMATIC M7 automation computer.

Press-specific technology functions are, for example, the main drive control, the press-specific cam controller supply (FM352), tool protection and press force monitoring.

Press2000S for simple solutions:
Here, the press-specific technology functions are realized in S7 function blocks and can be run on the S7-CPUs with a response time of 5-8 ms.

Press2000M7 for more demanding applications:
The press-specific technology functions run parallel to the PLC cycle on the M7 automation computer, so that response times of 2-3 ms can be achieved.

Communication software for the technology functions, sample applications for S7 application programs, and operator screen forms are available for both versions.

Press2000 is a control concept based on SIMATIC S7 for the automation of mechanical presses. Presses such as eccentric presses, punching machines or knuckle-joint presses can be upgraded with the system. Suitable components are combined to produce a solution meeting the specific needs of the application. Press2000 enables scalable, integrated solutions, ranging from simple to highly automated machines, to be implemented on a unified control system platform. This eliminates the need for interfaces to external devices such as cam controllers, tool safety devices or press force monitoring devices.

Дизайн

The control concept is based on SIMATIC S7 and press-specific technology software. The main components of the control system are:

  • CPU module (for S7-300)
    The PLC with CPU and I/O modules meets the requirements of the machine control, e.g. interlocks, logic operation and releases. Different CPUs are available for different performance ranges, amongst them CPUs with integrated PROFIBUS-DP interface. Depending on memory capacity, CPUs of type CPU314 or higher are preferred.
  • FM 352 cam controller
    The FM 352 function module is an electronic cam controller with up to 32 cam tracks, some of which can actuate final control elements via direct outputs or be interconnected via the machine program. Distance/distance, distance/time, counting cams and dynamic cams are available for the various applications. These functions are implemented on an ASIC for the fastest response times.
  • FM 351 and FM 354 positioning modules
    The FM 351 and FM 354 positioning modules can be used to control positioning axes by means of limit points or position control, depending on the required precision and sophistication of the drive system. These function modules control the punch height, sheet entry height or further positioning axes. Measurement systems which can be connected include SSI absolute value encoders or incremental encoders.
  • Press2000M7 module
    The Press2000M7 module is available for technological tasks which cannot be performed using standard modules, such as individual closed-loop controllers and time-critical functions. The main components are:
    • Automation computer SIMATIC M7 – FM 356-4
    • Interface modules IF 961-AIO, IF 961DIO
    • Cam controller FM 352
    • Press2000-Memcard with press-specific technology software.
  • The automation computer consists of an AT-compatible computer kernel with the proven RMOS real-time multi-tasking operating system which runs the Press2000 technology software. Functions are provided for main drive control, tool protection and press force monitoring. Response times down to 2 ms enable high protection of tools and machinery.
  • SIMATIC HMI operator panels
    SIMATIC HMI operator panels are used for visualization, operation, fault diagnostics, parameter assignment and start-up support. An integrated range of units is available, from simple plain text displays to graphics-capable panels using TFT technology. All of the panels can be configured with the SIMATIC ProTool engineering system.

Press2000 technology software

There are two versions of Press2000 software:

Press2000S for simple solutions:

The Press2000 technology software offers ready-made press functions for main drive control, tool protection and press force monitoring. In Press2000S, this software is made available as function blocks on disk, in Press2000M7 it is available fully programmed on a Press2000-MemCard. C programming skills are therefore not essential. The following press functions are available as software modules.

Main drive control

The main functions of this software module are:

  • Stroke number definition
  • Dynamic braking angle calculation for TDC stop
  • Positioning of main drive for stroke height adjustment
    • in Press2000S via switch-off points
    • in Press2000M7 via position control or switch-off points
  • Counters (e.g. batch or total number of pieces counters)
    • 2 for Press2000S
    • 8 for Press2000M7

Tool protection

Various monitoring functions, such as static control, feed control, dynamic position control and segment counting with or without position control are provided to protect the equipment from mispunching. If the predefined signal sequences between monitoring angle and sensor signals are not maintained in the event of an error, a TDC stop is initiated or the press is stopped immediately.

  • Press2000S: 8 monitoring channels with 3 monitoring types
  • Press2000M7 8 (optionally 16) monitoring channels with 7 monitoring types

Press force monitoring

Analog press force sensors are monitored for the preset minimum and maximum force, and for total and differential force. The press force can be evaluated either in a measuring window or continuously. This allows effective protection of the press from overload.

  • Press2000S: 2 sensors with minimum, maximum, total and differential force evaluation in measuring window
  • Press2000M7: 4 sensors with minimum, maximum, total and differential force evaluation in measuring window and continuously over the whole press force per envelope curve.

If a sensor is activated, a message is generated which can be followed by either an immediate stop or a TDC stop.

Example applications

Because of the different types and classes of machine in operation, it is always necessary to customize the user interface, machine control, and operating modes, etc. The machine manufacturer makes these modifications during commissioning of the plant. To keep engineering costs as low as possible, we provide you with tested example PLC programs. These S7 user programs have been developed in statement list format (STL) for typical press operating modes, such as single stroke, permanent stroke or set-up operations, and can be extended and modified easily using STEP 7.

Furthermore, we offer sample operator screen forms, with Press2000S for OP27, with Press2000M7 for OP37. Using the ProTool design tool, these can easily be modified.
